U15 FOBISIA Games
We had a treat at the opening event, a Syrian potential Olympic swimmer demonstrated the starts and then an effortless 100m IM, the potential Olympians dive was almost similar to some of our young swimmers, just with less splash.
During the swimming competition Yana and Leila were stand out performers swimming beautifully picking up medals in all of their races. A solid 3rd place for the swimming. In the afternoon we rolled out to the athletics track, the weather was gorgeous, the sun was shining, a cracking easterly breeze cooling the young athletes, the stage was set. BSKL athletes were winning medals at almost every event, the long distance runners dominating the early track events, the throwers medalling alongside the jumpers and the sprinters were unstoppable, especially Ivan Yeoh who rocketed down the home straight for a gold medal. Outstanding performances in the athletics were Laura and Olivia Noble.
The second day of competition was the boys basketball and the girls football, a new tournament structure was in operation for the basketball competitions this year, two pools were created with the top two qualifying to the finals, the girls football was a direct round robin with everyone playing everyone. The boys basketballers lost a thrilling game of basketball to Bangkok Prep 24-22, a disappointing result in a game we could have won, nonetheless the show must go on, and the girls footballers were putting on a great show, they won all of their games except losing to Ho Chi Min, securing an amazing second position in the competition, well done Mr Kennedy and the girls. The boys basketballers failed to qualify for the finals and ended up winning the 5th vs 6th place final, a tough group cost us, but we will regroup and put those demons to bed in the upcoming ISAC and KLISS competitions.
The final day of the competition soon arrived, the girls basketball and the boys football. Mr Thomson and Mr Hill were excited about the high level of competition and were very confident with the preparation of their respective teams. The girls basketballers won their first two group games convincingly proceeding to the finals. Boys football was a similar story with the team dismantling teams scoring goals for fun, have to mention Andres who was unplayable and selfless in this tournament. The whole squad played their part in the football and they showed that they were simply too good by beating everyone and winning the competition.
The girls basketballers buoyed by the arrival of Mr Hill especially for the tournament, played some gritty basketball and kept their composure, executed set plays and went undefeated in the whole games winning the trophy and gold medals - the first BSKL basketball win at a FOBISIA games - we are so proud of you!
Well done to all of the athletes who participated in the trip and a huge thank you to Mr Thomson for organising this successful trip and Miss Wilson, Mr Kennedy and Mr Hill and Mr Rudling for making the trip so special.
