With over 50 nationalities at the school, it is important to share and celebrate the cultural diversity amongst the BSKL community.
Under the guidance of Emily Keen, a member of the Primary Leadership team, the parents united again to showcase their national identity with a cultural treat. The junior campus gymnasium was transformed with a number of stalls representing different countries and continents around the world.
Each stall highlighted the country’s customs and traditions in a fun and interactive way. The children were able to rotate around a variety of stalls gaining information as well as sampling some delicious food, playing traditional games and ‘having a go’ at a range of art and crafts. It was wonderful to see how much the children enjoyed a chance to raise their global awareness, listening to different information whilst at the same time enjoying themselves. There were many highlights and a number of favourite foods, humorous moments and new learning experiences.
The parade was a really joyful occasion. The carnival atmosphere was evident with entertainment from our Spanish salsa dancers in Year 5 and Secondary Malaysian dancers, looking stunning in traditional outfits. Year 6 led the way with Early Years children in tow as the entire Primary school waved flags clearly enjoying sporting their
national costumes and colours.
Many children, staff and parents commented that this is their favourite day of the year - praise indeed! It was clear that a lot of thought and effort had gone into the occasion. My thanks go the many parents who again demonstrated why BSKL is such a special place to be.
