EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

At the British International School of Kuala Lumpur (BSKL), we offer one of the most diverse and wide-ranging extra-curricular programmes in Malaysia. Here, your child will do what they love, discover new passions, and develop a host of transferable skills.

Extra-curricular activities at BSKL, Malaysia

We offer a wide range of clubs that introduce our students to potential hobbies, sports, languages, and service opportunities. Our aim is to ignite interests in areas they would perhaps not be exposed to through the curriculum.

Every child takes part in enrichment activities at BSKL. Parents are asked to choose one club per term, usually representing a balance between active/sport and creative, academic, or service programmes. Each student is required to stick to any given club for at least a term, reinforcing the idea that any commitment to learning must be followed through.

How do children benefit from extra-curricular activities?

Physical development

By taking part in sports and outdoor activities, children develop movement and motor skills, get active, and improve their mental and physical fitness. Combined with other life skills, like learning how to eat right, our students develop healthy habits from an early age.

Creativity

Many activities provide an outlet for creativity and problem-solving. Obvious examples are arts and crafts, music, and the performing arts, but other activities, like sports, also teach problem-solving skills. The best activities for your children are those that encourage their natural curiosity and interests.

Stress relief

Lots of our activities take place in a relaxing environment or promote healthy methods for dealing with stress. The more we're able to find positive ways to deal with stress and build resilience, the better we feel.

Self-confidence

When children learn new skills and engage in social activities, they become more self-confident. Learning skills like cooperation, negotiation, and conflict resolution in a fun and relaxed environment will help them interact appropriately with others - a skill valuable in all aspects of life.

Teamwork is important at home as well as at work. Team sports require children to work together to achieve a common goal, removing the focus from the individual to the team. These aren't the only activities that teach teamwork, however; other activities, like drama and dance, also promote collaboration.
